Located on the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula, which extends northward into Lake Huron, the small town of Tobermory is just over four hours from Toronto, and around an hour away from Sauble Beach on the southern end of the peninsula. With a population of around 1500, Tobermory is a popular vacation spot. Known as the ‘Northern Gateway’ of the peninsula for its prime location right on the tip, Tobermory real estate is sought after by those who like to holiday in the great outdoors. It’s also home to a pair of harbors known as Big Tub and Little Tub; the former is Canada’s largest freshwater harbor.
Tobermory has a population of just a few thousand permanent residents, although there is a healthy stream of visitors in the summer months or for weekends. Visitors have several options for places to stay, with cottage rentals allowing them to sample some of the most pleasant pieces of Tobermory real estate. The Bruce Anchor Cottages feature the ‘Sunset Deck’, which boasts the best view of Lake Huron, overlooking the Big Tub Harbour and Georgian Bay.

Scuba diving is also a popular local activity, with the Fathom Five National Marine Park famed for its many fascinating shipwrecks. Fathom Five also features incredible glass-bottomed boat rides, which give non-divers the opportunity to also see what lies beneath.
Kayaking and canoeing remain popular, and there are of course plenty of fishing spots along with the spectacular Cornerstone golf course. The town ferry, the MS Chi-Cheemaun, can also take you and your car out to Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron, where you can explore the largest freshwater lake island in the world. The historic Bruce Trail also begins in Tobermory and continues for 885 km down to the Niagara Peninsula. Hikers travel from far and wide to hike the whole route, eventually becoming ‘End to Enders’.
The temperature tends to be a few degrees cooler than Toronto, with average highs of 23 degrees C in July and average lows of -10 degrees C in February.
While Tobermory real estate might not be surrounded by an extensive array of shops and businesses, there is everything you need in the town to stay comfortable in the summer months. With plenty of restaurants, small cafes, resort dining rooms and bars to choose from, there will always be somewhere new to try. The town even has its own microbrewery, the Tobermory Brewing Company & Grill. However, most local businesses of this nature do only operate between May and the Thanksgiving Long Weekend.
Tobermory is also home to several unique art galleries, showcasing the skills of local artists and artisans.
